Dua Lipa, a popular British singer of Albanian origin, was granted Albanian citizenship by the country’s president, Bajram Begaj, for her contribution to spreading Albanian culture internationally through her music. According to Begaj, Lipa received her citizenship just before Albania’s 110th anniversary of independence from the Ottoman Empire. Lipa expressed her gratitude and pride in being granted Albanian citizenship and shared the news on her Instagram page, thanking Begaj and Tirana’s mayor for the honor.
Born in London in 1995 to Albanian parents Anesa and Dukagjin Lipa from Kosovo, Lipa began her singing career at a young age of five. Her father, a former singer and guitarist of a rock band, had a great influence on her music. She started sharing her songs on YouTube when she was only 14 years old. In 2017, she released her first studio album, and two years later, she won the prestigious Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
In 2016, the Sunny Hill Foundation was established by this individual and her father. Their aim was to provide financial assistance to those in need through annual concerts held in Kosovo. She expressed her immense happiness and gratitude for the support received. In addition, she completed necessary paperwork including a passport photo, fingerprinting and application for identification and a passport.
