I stumbled upon Mau, a puppy who was almost two years old, while walking through a graveyard. When I found him, he was in an extremely weakened state, resembling a skeleton due to malnourishment. He was also dehydrated and fatigued, and his breathing was so weak that he was lying helpless on the side of the road. Despite other people passing by, no one seemed to notice as they assumed that he had already died.
As soon as my eyes met Mau’s, my heart broke. His situation was just so unfortunate that tears started streaming down my face. I knew I had to do something to help him. Without any hesitation, Mau and I made a quick escape from that dreadful place. Unfortunately, it was a holiday and all the nearby vets were closed. I decided to take Mau home with me for the time being. But even with all my efforts to feed him, he wouldn’t eat a thing. He seemed completely defeated as he lay on the ground. The next morning, at 8 a.m., we rushed to the animal hospital hoping they could help us save poor Mau.
Upon examination, the doctor suspected a possible spine issue and immediately ordered an MRI scan. To my surprise, the results showed that Mau had sustained two gunshot wounds – one in his chest and another in the center of his spine – that were deeply embedded in his body, making their removal incredibly challenging. His liver, kidney, and digestive system indices were alarmingly low, and there was no indication of any infection. Consequently, the situation was unpleasant and uncomfortable for everyone involved. Despite the difficult circumstances, Mau’s condition was gradually improving, albeit slowly, as we awaited the doctor’s decision on how to extract the bullets. Unfortunately, Mau’s ability to walk had been permanently lost, which was heartbreaking. However, the vital thing was that he was still alive and with us. Our beloved, serene, and composed boy was eventually discharged from the hospital, but the medical team was understandably cautious about his treatment, anticipating several challenges.
